Avocados are one of my favorite fruits. Avocados are super tasty in my opinion and they are also very healthy. This fruit contains all the important nutrients that we need. Moreover, avocado has been proven to help combat various diseases, such as Alzheimer's, cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Below I explain what exactly is so healthy about avocado.

1. Avocado is packed with vitamins.

Avocados are an excellent source of vitamins B, K and E. Vitamin B and K ensure a good metabolism and healthy skin. Vitamin K plays an important role in the growth of our bones so that you maintain good bone density later in life. Vitamin E cannot be produced by the body itself, but you do need it, among other things for the production of red blood cells and the maintenance of muscle tissue and other tissues.

2. Avocado has a high mineral content.

The mineral content in avocado (think of potassium, calcium and magnesium) is almost three times as high as in most other fruits. These natural minerals (mineral salts) ensure, among other things, the favorable blood pressure and optimum acidity of your body. A magnesium deficiency can lead to various health problems such as muscle complaints, muscle weakness, PMS, menstrual pain, migraine, cold hands and feet and a low libido.

3. Avocado belongs to high-fibre foods.

Fiber is incredibly important to maintain the health of the intestines. Avocado is a great source of fiber, including both insoluble and soluble fibers. This combination is not often found in other foods. The insoluble fibers ensure a healthy bowel movement. This cleanses the intestines well and that reduces the risk of colon cancer. The soluble fiber gives you a feeling of satiety (helps you feel full), so you keep your appetite under control. High-fiber foods such as avocado can also cut your LDL (‘bad’) cholesterol.

4. Avocado contains good fats.

Monounsaturated fats are good fats and have a number of health benefits. They can help to keep your cholesterol in balance, which reduces the risk of heart disease and diabetes. They also decrease inflammation and can help with weight loss. Avocado is full of them.

5. Avocado is good for your eyes.

There is lutein in avocados. This is a type of carotenoids, a natural pigment that protects against cataracts. It also reduces the risk of macular degeneration: the leading cause of blindness in people over 65 years of age. Avocados contain three times as much lutein as other fruits and vegetables.

6. Avocado ensures better absorption of nutrients.

Avocados are not only packed with nutrients; they also help absorb nutrients from other foods. So, by adding avocado to your meal (for example to your salad) your body absorbs many more nutrients.

7. Avocado is rich in folic acid.

If you are pregnant, it is recommended to take folic acid, a vitamin that reduces the risk of birth defects. Half an avocado provides almost a quarter of the recommended daily intake of folic acid. In addition, folic acid reduces the risk of heart attack and cardiovascular disease.

8. Avocado is a good meat substitute.

Avocado is actually a complete meat substitute. Besides vitamin B12, it has everything you need if you do not eat meat, namely many healthy fats and proteins.

9. Avocado has an anti-inflammatory effect.

The combination of all the nutrients in avocado has an anti-inflammatory effect. It helps to prevent or reduce osteoarthritis and rheumatism.

10. Avocado is good for your skin.

The fibers and potassium in the fruit prevent skin aging. In addition, avocado is packed with vitamin A, which helps to purify the skin and get rid of dead skin cells. The amino acids in avocados clean your skin and offer protection against unfavorable external factors.

In short, these are more than enough reasons to regularly put the avocado on your daily menu!

To benefit from all the positive qualities of avocado, make sure you eat in a varied way and with the correct composition of your meal. This ensures that the nutrients from your food are optimally absorbed by your body. Also don't forget to exercise and relax regularly. Exercise ensures a better metabolism and the relaxed body absorbs nutrients better!
